Pink Island Kush from Bulk Buddy is an indica dominant strain that is famous for its aesthetically pleasing looks and tremendous terpene profile. Although the hereditary history of this strain is shrouded in mystery, what we do know as the first bred as a cross between the beloved Pink Kush and another unknown, but the potent strain of indica lineage.
Laboratory reports for this batch of Pink Island Kush show absolutely whopping “average” levels of 28% THC concentration, which is evident by all the visible amounts of THC trichomes. Like most indica strains, the effects of Pink Island Kush vary from relaxing to uplifting, sleepy and all-around happy. Lush, elongated green buds hide vibrant purple leaves that are blanketed by luminous THC trichomes. The exotic terpene, aroma and flavour profile of Pink Island Kush is described as being very gas-like, pungent, woody with notes of fresh, pine-like sweetness and sharp diesel undertones.
History
Like many strains, it’s tough to precisely trace Pink Kush’s lineage. However, it’s widely believed to be an offspring or relative of OG Kush. Popular folklore tells us that the strain was originally bred in Amsterdam before making its way to North America, where it took root and quickly became a staple on the west coast.
Pure Sunfarms shared the history of its cultivar: “Pink Kush was the very first strain cultivated at Pure Sunfarms, back in 2018! We couldn’t pass up the chance to work with a legendary BC phenotype that inspired not only growers but also cannabis lovers, wherever it went. It’s a beloved strain across BC and the rest of Canada, and its acclaim has only increased. Pink Kush is a plant that requires a gentle touch and a watchful eye, so we made the commitment to only release our special cut when we were pleased with the results.”
High
With immediate effects, Pink Island’s high is fast-acting and intense. Right away, both body and mind are affected. In the mind, thoughts become faster and sharper, giving into a rush of creative energy, while the body starts to become weighed down and heavy. As it progresses, the lethargic physical effects creep into the mind where they allow for thoughts and emotions to become stretched out. In both areas, Pink Island’s effects are very intense, highlighting the potency of this interesting strain.
For medicinal purposes, Pink Island should be reserved for those with ample cannabis experience. A small amount of this strain can create an intense buzz, and should be used with strong intent and focus. It can help to manage chronic pain, nausea, and other physical ailments while allowing users to retain mental energy.
Taste and smell
Pink Island’s diverse lineage is on full display in the bud structure. Contrasting dark purple and light green leaves make up the dense buds, while pale crystals and dark orange hairs saturate the surface. This distinct visual contrast sets Pink Island apart, hinting at the intense buzz that’s trapped inside. This contrast continues in the aromatic qualities, giving Pink Island a dank, skunky smell that still contains those fruity, sweet, and clean tones sativas are known for. Both aspects are mingled together, leaving neither the skunky or fruity smell to dominate.
The smoke is thin, but heavy with flavor, and can create some chest irritation. Unlike most strains, there isn’t a clear initial flavor or aftertaste with Pink Island. Instead, the flavor of the smoke has a conflicting quality to it: at once, it’s both earthy and spicy, but also sweet with fruity tones. This conflicting quality gives Pink Island a distinct profile, but not necessarily the most pleasant smoking experience.

What is a strain?
To help you understand what a cannabis strain is, you can think of it like a breed of dog. While all dogs share similar traits, there are definitely differences among breeds (you wouldn’t confuse a Great Dane with a dachshund, for example). When it comes to different cannabis strains, this means one may have a sweet, lemony aroma, while another may boast a pungent, sour diesel-like scent. These differences have been fine-tuned by cannabis growers over many generations. Growers will choose two plants with desirable traits (for example, a strong diesel scent) and cross (or breed) those plants together, creating an offspring with a stronger expression of those desirable traits. When breeding cannabis plants, growers are often focused on the unique aroma, and taste, and potential THC and CBD content of a strain. And just like no two Great Danes are the same, strains can vary from lot to lot and grower to grower.
Growing
Long before its buds are trimmed, packaged and delivered to consumers, Pink Kush can be identified in the grow room by its thick stalks and broad dark green fan leaves. At times, the plant can be tricky to grow; it thrives with plenty of light exposure and precise temperatures.
The team at Top Leaf (grown by Sundial) shed some light on how they’ve helped their plants thrive: “The main challenge with growing Pink Kush is heat stress. The strain is indica-dominant and likes lots of light and lower room temperatures, which can be a challenging combination [when growing]. We utilize a hydroponic growing method using rockwool as our growing media and high-pressure sodium lights. This [approach] helps our plants get a good feed and nutrient uptake without overwatering, while also getting the perfect light saturation that won’t overheat the plant.”
Really smooth smoking, easy to roll up. The high starts off making you very relaxed, about halfway through a good case of the munchies, finishes off by making you feel very relaxed and sleepy. Good if you have any sleeping issues and want to have a nice sleep, doesn’t make you feel over tired in the morning like some other strains.
